Launched in 2011, the Cruiser 40 was part of a major design transition for Bavaria Yachtbau, moving away from the traditional, conservative, moderatedisplacement shapes of its J&J Yacht Design era. The German builder partnered with Farr Yacht Design for naval architecture and BMW Group DesignworksUSA for styling, seeking to modernize the aesthetic with upright cabin walls, flush hatches, and a high freeboard while utilizing Farr's pedigree to optimize the underbody lines for better speed and stability. Sitting at a crucial dividing line in the new range, the Cruiser 40 was the largest model in the fleet to feature a single rudder, as its larger sibling models employed twin rudders to handle their wide, heeled hulls.
