The Parker 325 stands as one of the more inventive small cruisers of its generation: a 33ft 6in liftingkeel yacht developed inhouse by Tony Castro and B & W Parker, launched in 1993 and built through 2000. With her solid construction, practical interior, and good performance, Yachting Monthly judged her one of the most versatile 32footers afloat anchor. She is a development of the Tony Castrodesigned Parker 31, which in turn grew from his Passagemaker 30, and she carries forward the marque's liftingkeel philosophy with a distinctly modern execution.

Parker 325 Buyer's Guide

Shopping for a used Parker 325 means considering a 33ft 6in lifting-keel cruiser built from 1993 to 2000 and developed from the Tony Castro-designed Parker 31. The same hull later became the Parker 335 with minor interior tweaks, so the two are fundamentally the same boat; the 335 name was adopted for the last 11 hulls after German buyers felt "325" understated the 33ft 6in length. A used buyer is effectively choosing between near-identical yachts with different nameplates.

Layouts on the Used Market

Every 325 was built around a fully retractable keel, so the interior is arranged around the keel case rather than fighting it. Expect a forecabin with a berth over 6ft 8in, a roomy heads to starboard of the keel reachable from either the forecabin or saloon, and a chart table to port of the case. The saloon and galley are comfortably sized for the length, headroom is just over 6ft, and an athwartships aft cabin sits beneath the cockpit. Most boats had wheel steering with the pedestal set aft to allow a mainsheet traveller forward of it; a handful used tillers. A double bow-roller and contoured anchor-well lid are standard at the bow.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

Given the keel system, the most consequential equipment for a buyer is the hydraulic ram and associated stainless shafts and anodes that service the lifting wing keel. A shaft-log sterngear is fitted rather than a P-bracket, a plus for a yacht that takes the ground. Customisation was common, so owners may have added refinements, but the structural and mechanical core — keel hydraulics, rudder on hinged stock, and through-bolted side-deck chainplates — is what matters most when comparing used Parker 325s.

What to Inspect

The lifting wing keel is the focal point of any survey. Corrosion to the keel hydraulic ram is common anchor where dissimilar metals meet seawater, so anodes must be present and regularly renewed. The fastenings securing the lead keel to the shaft assembly have been known to shear off and should be checked. On deck, the through-bolted chainplate arrangements for the standing rigging are prone to water ingress anchor, and high moisture readings in those areas are frequently found.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

For the buyer, the essentials are:

  • Confirm keel ram anodes are in place and ram shows no advanced corrosion
  • Inspect keel-to-shaft fastenings for any sign of shearing
  • Test the lifting keel operation and check shaft-log seal
  • Survey side-deck chainplate areas for moisture ingress
  • Verify keel-up draft and rudder hinge condition for shallow berthing
