The Parker 275 is a 27ft 11in coastal cruiserracer whose shallowdraught lineage stretches back to Ron Holland's 1978 Super Seal 26, a modest shallowdraught cruiser/racer of which about 100 were built by John Baker in Devon before the rights passed to G.W. Parker in Boston, Lincolnshire in 1983. Parker lengthened the coachroof for headroom and renamed it the Parker 27; then in 1990 the design was revised with completely new moulds but kept close to the original Super Seal concept, emerging as the Parker 275 built through 1998. The guiding idea across this family was a fast, shallowdraughted yacht that could be beached easily yet still sleep five.

Parker 275 Buyer's Guide

Shopping the used Parker 275 means taking home a 1990–1998 coastal cruiser-racer conceived for fun weekend sailing rather than liveaboard cruising, with a lifting iron keel that lets her dry out on a beach or creep up a leafy creek. Derived from the Super Seal 26 concept, she is a light-displacement 27-footer of 5,500lb with 2,050lb of ballast and a 380sq ft rig, so the appeal is sparkle and beachability over long-range stowage.

Layouts on the Used Market

The 275 kept the original Super Seal ethos of a fast, shallow-draughted yacht that sleeps five, but the 1990 revision brought headroom to 6ft and widened the stern for a roomier cockpit. Buyers will find a decent cockpit from the upright transom, a generous aft double, a forward foc's'le double via the port bulkhead door and a starboard heads door, six berths in total, and a small but functional galley. The trade-off is limited below-decks storage, so judge any boat against your weekend-gear load rather than extended-trip ambitions.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

On the used market, heating and a short-handed setup are commonly fitted, meaning most boats are set up for colder-season coasting and single- or two-person sail handling. A wind generator and a dodger are also commonly seen, pointing to self-sufficient power and a sheltered helm as standard expectations, while a life raft is a common safety fit. Less frequently you may find owner-added items, but the prevalent cluster is energy independence, weather protection and reduced-crew sailing rather than luxury refits. A known owner upgrade is the original 10hp Yanmar swapped for a 14hp Beta, worth confirming on any candidate.

What to Inspect

The heavy lifting keel is the one design penalty to check. The 700lb iron foil requires 180 winch-handle turns and three to four minutes to raise by hand, so verify whether the optional electric winch is fitted; without it, every drying berth is a workout. Also confirm the rudder and daggerboard lift cleanly so the hull can dry out as intended, and inspect the keel trunk and lifting gear for wear from repeated cycle use.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

Typical availability is in the United Kingdom. For a buyer, the short checklist is: confirm electric keel winch or budget for manual effort, check lift mechanisms and trunk integrity, assess limited stowage against your use, and verify any Yanmar-to-Beta repower. A well-kept 275 is a dry, light-helm weekender with real shallow-water freedom.
