The Swan 112 RS arrived in 1999 as a deliberate statement of scale from a Finnish builder better known until then for serial production cruiserracers. Designed by German Frers and built by Nautor's Swan at the yard in Finland, it was the first megayacht the company ever produced and, at launch, the largest boat the yard had yet built. Five examples were completed between 1999 and 2006, a short, tightly controlled run that ended only when the Swan 131 appeared six years after the 112's debut. At 110,000 kg of displacement against 28,000 kg of ballast, the 112 RS occupied superyacht proportions rather than the performancecruiser lineage that defined the marque through the 1970s and early 1980s.

Swan 112 Buyer's Guide

Shopping the brokerage market for a used Swan 112 RS means coming to terms with a boat that was never common: five were built between 1999 and 2006, and every example traces to German Frers's design and Nautor's Swan's Finnish yard. As the builder's first megayacht and the largest it had launched until the Swan 131 appeared six years later, the 112 RS sits in a short production window that rewards patient searching over rapid acquisition. The used-market population splits between charter four-cabin layouts and other configurations, with ex-charter examples a common sight.

Layouts on the Used Market

Charter four-cabin layouts are the more common arrangement encountered on the used market, but both layout types remain available to a buyer willing to wait for the right hull. Ex-charter examples are common, which means a portion of the surviving fleet will show the wear patterns and system-use history associated with paid use rather than private ownership. The Swan 112 RS was designed with ergonomics in mind so that it could be crewed by a modest four-person complement, and the luxurious character recorded of the model carries through regardless of which layout a given boat presents.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

A bow thruster is commonly fitted across the used fleet. Beyond that, boats often carry a watermaker, air conditioning, inverter, electric winches, freezer, teak decks, radar, autopilot, chartplotter, and Starlink, all of which fall into the often-seen category rather than universal specification. The MTU 414hp engine is a documented standard fitting, and the masthead rig with its 237.8-square-meter mainsail, 345.5-square-meter reacher, and 712-square-meter gennaker defines the sail plan a buyer should expect to inherit or revise.

What to Inspect

The documentary record for the Swan 112 RS contains no documented structural defects, systemic failures, or recurring known issues from surveys, owner reports, or manufacturer advisories. No drainage problems, flooding paths, or quantified defect measurements appear in the source material for this model. A buyer should still commission a full survey appropriate to a 34.54-meter, 110,000 kg monohull with a 4.40-meter draft, but the established factual base offers no model-specific trouble spots to prioritize beyond standard superyacht due diligence.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

The typical markets where Swan 112 RS boats appear are Panama, Greece, and Spain. Given the five-boat production run and the mix of charter and non-charter histories, a buyer should:

  • Confirm whether a candidate is an ex-charter four-cabin layout or an alternative configuration
  • Verify the presence of commonly fitted bow thruster and often-seen systems such as watermaker and electric winches
  • Commission a survey appropriate to a 1999–2006 Finnish-built megayacht with no documented known issues
  • Expect to search across Panama, Greece, and Spain rather than a single regional pool
