The Shipman 28 is a quintessential example of Scandinavian yacht design from the late 1960s, a period when the transition from wood to fiberglass was beginning to yield seaworthy, mass-produced cruisers. Designed by the prolific Swedish naval architect Olle Enderlein, the vessel was first launched in 1969 and remained in production for nearly a decade. During its production run, approximately 1,000 units were manufactured, primarily by Shipman Sweden AB in Visby and later by Fiberman in Denmark. The boat’s enduring popularity stems from its balance of IOR-era racing lines and a layout optimized for family coastal cruising. Despite its "28" designation, the hull measures closer to 29 feet (8.86 meters), providing a slightly larger platform than many of its contemporary rivals.
