The Xp 50 arrived as the latest addition to XYachts' Xp performance line, a Danishbuilt 50foot dualpurpose racercruiser that pairs a highperformance hull with a genuinely cruiserfriendly interior. Designed under the long tenure of Niels Jeppesen, who led XYachts' inhouse design team from the company's 1979 founding until late 2021, the boat entered production in 2013 as part of the Xp range that began with the Xp 44 and Xp 38 two years earlier. XYachts had by then moved its highperformance models to vacuuminfused epoxy construction, and the Xp models replaced the builder's traditional steel keel frame with a lightweight structural carbonfiber keel grid.

X-Yachts XP 50 Buyer's Guide

Shopping the used Xp 50 means looking at a 2013-onward X-Yachts performance cruiser that was built as a dual-purpose racer-cruiser with a high-performance hull and a genuinely cruiser-friendly interior. On the brokerage market you will most often find owner three-cabin layouts, though both configurations appear, and ex-charter examples are common enough to factor into a search.

Layouts on the Used Market

The boat was laid out for three couples, with mirror-image staterooms aft and a V-berth double forward, plus two heads each with a shower stall. The saloon holds a squared-off dinette to port and a small nav station, while the galley centers its sinks on the boat's midline. Up top, long cockpit seats sit beside twin wheels, and a cockpit table retracts into the sole. A folding garage door forms a large swim platform, and the dodger stows into a coaming recess — details that read as cruising boats rather than stripped racers.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

Most used Xp 50s are commonly fitted with electric winches, a bow thruster, asymmetric spinnaker, bimini, teak decks, chartplotter, short-handed sailing setup, cabin heating, hot water, and cockpit shower, with autopilot and a conventional spinnaker also typical. For a buyer, the electric winches and bow thruster make docking and sail handling manageable on a 50-footer, while the short-handed setup and autopilot matter for reduced crew sailing. Often-seen upgrades include a watermaker and solar, an inverter, code zero or gennaker, swim platform, AIS, Starlink, and life raft — the watermaker and solar extending range, the code zero or gennaker broadening light-air performance. Less commonly, you may find lithium batteries, a furling main, or radar as owner upgrades.

What to Inspect

The known points from surveyed examples center on the structure and deck gear rather than hidden systems. The hull carries its beam to a very wide transom with a near-plumb stem and vertical transom, and the deep knifelike rudder should be checked for bearing wear and blade integrity given its profile. The electric garage door hinge and the folding dodger recess are moving parts worth exercising, and the under-deck sheet leads and maxi-boat mainsheet system should be traced for clean lead paths and load wear. The two draft options — 9 feet 10 inches and 8 feet 8 inches — mean verifying which bulb is fitted.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

Used Xp 50s typically appear in the United Kingdom, Greece, and Spain. For a buyer, the checklist is straightforward: confirm the layout (owner three-cabin most common, ex-charter examples frequent), verify the rig (aluminum or carbon stick), exercise the electric swim platform and dodger, and inspect the deep rudder and under-deck leads. A well-equipped example with electric winches, bow thruster, and short-handed setup will be the easier boat to own; treat lithium batteries or furling main as bonus rather than expected.
