The early 1990s marked a pivotal era in sailboat design as the ultralight displacement boat (ULDB) movement matured into highly refined, trailerable sportboats. Designed by naval architect Glenn Henderson in 1991, the SR 27 was conceived as an uncompromising, highperformance racercruiser that could be easily trailered without sacrificing the raw speed and responsiveness of a dedicated keelboat. Launched under Henderson’s "SR Boats" banner, the design immediately captured the industry’s attention, winning Sailing World’s prestigious "Daysailer/One Design of the Year" award in 1992. Henderson’s company and the tooling for the SR range were acquired by C&C Yachts in 1994, but a catastrophic factory fire destroyed the molds shortly thereafter. Consequently, only eight hulls were ever built, making the SR 27 one of the rarest and most soughtafter cult classics of the modern sportboat era.
