The Moody 44, designed by Bill Dixon and built by Marine Projects in Plymouth between 1991 and 1996, represents one of the highwater marks of the classic British centercockpit cruising era. Commissioned to succeed the widely successful Moody 425, Dixon was given a clean sheet to create a completely new hull rather than stretching previous tooling. The resulting yacht combined robust glassreinforced plastic construction with a balanced hull form, a modern sweptspreader rig, and a signature sugarscoop transom. Positioned to compete with highend European rivals like Oyster and HallbergRassy, the Moody 44 carved out a distinct niche. It offered a highly seaworthy, dry, and secure passagemaking platform designed for longdistance cruising, without sacrificing the luxurious interior volume and creature comforts that appeal to cruising couples and liveaboards.
