The Lehman 12 is an enduring symbol of Southern California’s sailing heritage, representing the transition from traditional wooden craft to the fiberglass era. Designed by Barney Lehman in the late 1940s and famously produced by W.D. Schock, this 12foot open dinghy was conceived as a robust trainer and competitive onedesign racer. Unlike the lighter, planing dinghies that would follow in the 1960s, the Lehman 12 was built with a displacementoriented hull, giving it a stable, predictable motion that has endeared it to yacht clubs for over half a century.
