JPK 39 FC Buyer's Guide
The JPK 39 FC on the brokerage market is the second-generation fast cruiser from JPK Composites, evolved from the 38 FC with a roomier interior and a new hull shape. Built as a cruising yacht by a racing yard, it pairs a lightweight infused sandwich hull with a practical deck-saloon cabin — a boat that suits a buyer who wants regatta-bred handling without giving up liveaboard space.
Layouts on the Used Market
Most examples follow the standard plan: forward-facing navstation and linear galley to starboard, U-shaped settee to port, and a forecabin with a 2.1-meter double. A two-aft-cabin option exists, trading a smaller head for private sleeping quarters. The saloon table lowers to a double using cushions stored forward, and the reverse coachroof brings panoramic glazing and 1.98-meter headroom where it matters. Stowage in the standard boat tested at 3.5 cubic metres, with a large lazarette and a technical zone below the cockpit sole for systems.
Equipment and Common Upgrades
Power and energy systems are commonly fitted: lithium batteries, inverter, solar, and a watermaker appear on many boats, reflecting the modest standard 100-Ah bank that testers found thin for longer passages. A bow thruster and electric winches are also common, easing short-handed dockwork against the tiller-steered helm. Navigation is covered by chartplotter and autopilot, with owners choosing NKE or B&G instruments. For sail handling, the commonly fitted asymmetric spinnaker flies from a retractable carbon bowsprit, and heating plus a cockpit shower round out the comfort cluster.
What to Inspect
The standard battery capacity of just 100 Ah is barely sufficient for longer trips, so verify any lithium or added-bank upgrades and their charging path. The built-in diesel is acoustically rough and quite loud; on the test boat a 38-hp Nanni replaced the tighter Volvo Penta, so confirm which engine sits below and its isolation. Check the wet-room doors: on the test boat they were veneered flush on a GRP shell without frame timbers, gaps covered by black foam strips, a finish weak point. The tested hull showed rudder deflection restricted to starboard — exercise the twin tillers fully both directions. Partly simple surfaces in finishing quality warrant a close look at interior joiner work.
Availability and Buyer's Takeaway
These yachts typically appear in the United Kingdom and France. For a shopping shortlist: confirm keel option (standard 2.15 m, shoal 1.80 m, or lifting 1.30–2.70 m) against your cruising grounds; verify the electrical bank beyond the basic 100 Ah; listen to the engine under load; inspect wet-room door framing and rudder travel; and confirm the autopilot and instrument brand. A well-spec'd 39 FC is a fast tourer — but buy it for the sailing, not the dealer support.
