The Farr 9.2 is a definitive example of Bruce Farr’s early mastery of the cruiserracer concept, emerging in the mid1970s as a highperformance alternative to the heavier, traditional coastal cruisers of the era. Originally designed in 1976 and produced in significant numbers by Sea Nymph Boats in New Zealand and various yards in Australia, the 9.2 was intended to bridge the gap between the ultracompetitive "Quarter Ton" Farr 727 and the larger oceangoing Farr 1104. The design philosophy emphasizes a lightdisplacement hull with a powerful fractional rig, a combination that allowed it to dominate club racing while remaining manageable for a small family. According to the Farr Yacht Design archive, the model (Design 58) was engineered to provide a spacious interior without sacrificing the speed and agility that became the hallmark of the Farr brand.
