The Endeavour 32 began life in 1970 as the Irwin "Classic" 32, a Ted Irwin design conceived as a dualpurpose cruiserracer before the development of the IOR. When Endeavour Yacht Corporation was formed, the Irwin 32 molds became the basis for the new company, and Dennis Robbins modified the design inhouse to create the Endeavour 32, which entered production in 1975 and ran through 1982 with roughly 600 hulls completed. Compared with the original Irwin, the builder listed the E32 as 4 inches wider, 4 inches longer overall, and 6 inches longer on the waterline — a modest stretch that, along with a different coach roof line, revised port configuration, cockpit coaming, added interior storage, integral companionway stairs, and a teak cabin sole, separated the Endeavour from its parent design.

Endeavour 32 Buyer's Guide

Shopping the used Endeavour 32 means taking the measure of a 1975–1982 production cruiser-racer that began as Ted Irwin's 1970 Irwin 32 and was modified in-house by Dennis Robbins for Endeavour Yacht Corporation, with roughly 600 built. These are solid fiberglass boats of 32 feet 4 inches overall, 11,700 pounds displacement, and a 4-foot-2-inch shoal keel (or centerboard version), carrying 5,000 pounds of internal lead ballast — a narrow, easily handled coastal cruiser rather than a modern beamy performer.

Layouts on the Used Market

The interior is a molded fiberglass unit with varnished teak and a teak parquet sole, arranged with a forward V-berth, head to port, lockers to starboard, and a main salon whose port settee pulls to a double and starboard is a single, plus an aft port pilot berth and starboard galley with a large icebox. There is no door between main and forward cabins, and the widely noted absence of a navigation station or chart table is consistent across boats; the original stepped cabin trunk was replaced mid-production with a tapered profile, and early boats show six opening plus four fixed ports against the later ten opening ports and two Lexan hatches.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

All boats came with diesel engines — early units a 12-hp Yanmar 1QM, some with Westerbeke L-25 or Yanmar 2QM20, the bigger Yanmar standard from 1978 and GM-series later, with a 24-hp Universal option. On the used market, dodgers, air conditioning, autopilots, and chartplotters are commonly fitted, while solar, electric winches, swim platforms, and AIS appear as less common owner upgrades. The original Kenyon masthead rig with Lewmar winches and the 24-inch Edson pedestal wheel remain defining equipment, and the 16-inch two-blade fixed prop (three-blade optional) is standard.

What to Inspect

Documented owner and surveyor findings should direct a careful inspection. One owner reported extensive deck delamination, and a surveyor found loose tabbing around a forward bulkhead, so examine bulkhead bonds and deck core condition. Gelcoat drew a higher-than-average number of complaints, including one report of flaking inside the integral fiberglass water tank under the forward berths; older boats lack a deck fill for that tank. There are no deck scuppers, and centerboard versions carry about 3 feet of exposed, vulnerable wire pennant when the board is down, a frequent owner complaint. The engine compartment has no sound insulation on any example.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

Endeavour 32s are found in the United States. For a shopper, the short checklist is: confirm keel type and centerboard pennant condition if applicable; test bulkhead tabbing and deck for delamination; inspect gelcoat and the forward integral tank for flaking; verify no deck-scupper flooding paths are masked; and budget for a navigation-station workaround given the original layout's gap.
