Dufour 37 Buyer's Guide
The Dufour 37 is a current-production coastal cruiser introduced in 2022 to replace the Dufour 360, designed by Umberto Felci and built by Dufour Yachts. On the brokerage market she appears in both two- and three-cabin layouts, with ex-charter examples common and the owner three-cabin versions more frequently seen than the two-cabin arrangement.
Layouts on the Used Market
Owner three-cabin layouts are the more common on the used market, but both are available, and ex-charter examples are common. The three-cabin boat can sleep eight and pairs a large forecabin island bed with twin symmetrical aft cabins and a single head; the two-stateroom version trades the second aft cabin for a large aft cabin and a significantly larger bathroom. Either way the saloon has long settee berths and hullside ports, and the forward cabin benefits from a coachroof window giving a standing view ahead. Buyers should decide early which compromise suits them: the three-cabin boat maximizes guest capacity at the cost of head size, while the two-cabin layout favors a cruising couple or single family with a proper owner's ensuite.
Equipment and Common Upgrades
Most boats on the used market carry a cockpit shower and a chartplotter as standard fit, with bimini, autopilot, hot water, swim platform, self-tacking jib, inverter, furling main, and bow thruster often seen. For buyer consequence, the self-tacking jib defines the standard rig simplicity while a furling main and bow thruster point to shorthanded ease; autopilot and inverter matter for autonomous coastal passages. Less commonly, solar, AIS, asymmetric spinnaker, teak decks, life raft, heating, and code zero appear as owner upgrades—a code zero or asymmetric spinnaker signals a seller who sailed her beyond the marina, and solar with AIS suggests a boat equipped for longer hops.
What to Inspect
The Dufour 37 is built by vacuum infusion with a foam core above the waterline in the hull and closed-cell foam in the deck, and a moulded upstand forms the hull-to-deck joint creating flat-topped bulwarks. The standard engine is an 18.8 hp Volvo Penta saildrive with a 30 hp diesel option, both saildrive configurations, so inspect the hull-to-deck joint for any ingress at the bulwark interface. The deck is injected closed-cell foam, and both hull and deck are formed by vacuum infusion, so look for cosmetic window framing on the topsides where not all the large hull window area is functional glass.
Availability and Buyer's Takeaway
These yachts typically appear in the United States, France, Croatia, Italy, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom. For a buyer, the checklist is short: confirm the layout matches your use, verify the hull-to-deck joint condition, and note which performance package and rig upgrades are fitted. A well-kept three-cabin ex-charter boat suits fleet-minded cruising; a two-cabin owner version is the better private retreat.
