The Santana 2023 A represents W.D. Schock’s innovative response to the growing demand for lightweight, highperformance trailer sailers in the early 1990s. Designed by Steve Schock, this model was part of a dualrelease strategy alongside its sibling, the Santana 2023 C (Comfort). While both shared the same waterballasted hull, the "A" or "Advanced" version was engineered for the sailor who prioritized cockpit space and sail handling over interior volume. By utilizing a water ballast system, the Santana 2023 A achieved a towing weight of approximately 1,300 pounds, making it accessible to owners with standard passenger vehicles—a significant departure from the heavy, dedicated tow rigs required for traditional keelboats of this length.
