First built in 1984, the Feeling 850 represents a pivotal moment in French yacht design, marking Chantiers Kirié’s transition from heavy, traditional motorsailers to modern, highperformance cruiserracers. Designed by the esteemed naval architect Philippe Briand, the Feeling 850 was born from the DNA of Free Lance, a Briand prototype that won the prestigious Half Ton Cup in 1983. This commercial release effectively launched the Feeling brand identity, which went on to define an era of fast, lightdisplacement French production boats. For the North American market, the model was also occasionally distributed under the Elite 30 designation. By combining a racing pedigree with a revolutionary openplan interior, Kirié successfully targeted a new generation of cruising families who refused to compromise on speed.
