The Amel Maramu 46 represents a pivotal chapter in the history of bluewater cruising, serving as the bridge between the shipyard's early experimental designs and the global dominance of the subsequent Super Maramu. Designed by Henri Amel and Jacques Carteau, the Maramu 46 was produced from the late 1970s through the late 1980s. It was built with a singular focus: allowing a couple to sail around the world in absolute safety and relative comfort. Unlike its racingoriented contemporaries, the Maramu 46 prioritized a heavy displacement hull, a stable ketch rig, and a protected center cockpit that has since become the Amel Yachts hallmark. Its construction utilized solid fiberglass for the hull, with a deck that mimics teak but is actually a vacuumbonded synthetic—a revolutionary choice at the time that eliminated the maintenance nightmares associated with traditional timber decks.
