The story of Allied Yachts is forever intertwined with the dawn of the fiberglass boatbuilding revolution. Founded in Catskill, New York, along the Hudson River, the yard secured its place in maritime history with the original 30foot Seawind, which became the first fiberglass yacht to circumnavigate the globe when Alan Eddy completed his historic voyage aboard Apogee in the late 1960s. This monumental achievement did much to silence early skeptics who doubted the longevity of reinforced plastic in the open ocean. However, while the original Seawind was undeniably rugged, its accommodations were narrow and cramped, making it a challenging home for cruising couples or families. In response, Allied once again turned to legendary naval architect Thomas Gillmer to design a successor. Introduced in 1975, the Allied Seawind Mk II (also known as the Seawind II) kept the uncompromising offshore DNA of its predecessor but expanded the hull in every dimension to create a vastly more livable, capable, and modern pocket voyager.
