In the early 1980s, the Swedish yacht builder Albin Marine was navigating a major transformation. Having established a global reputation for seaworthy, productionoriented cruisers, the yard sought to construct a flagship that would directly challenge elite Baltic builders like Nautor Swan, HallbergRassy, and Najad. While Albin was highly integrated with Swedish designer Peter Norlin for many of its successful European models, they turned to the American design team of F. Michael Kaufman and Robert Ladd for this prestigious project. Built in Kristinehamn, Sweden, from 1981 to 1985, the resulting Albin Nimbus 42 emerged as a highperformance cruiserracer designed for experienced sailors seeking speed, safety, and comfort on longdistance passages.
