First launched in 1980, the Spirit 29 represents a peak era of semicustom European yacht design. Conceived by the highly respected Dutch naval architect Jacobus "Koos" de Ridder and constructed by the Belgian yard Bootbouwerij A.J. van Heygen, this masthead sloop was designed as a fast, highquality family cruiser. Over a production run that spanned until 1988, only 37 original units left the yard, making the Spirit 29 a rare and distinguished sight on the water. It is a boat built for sailors who prioritize performance, structural integrity, and traditional maritime aesthetics over the voluminous, caravanstyle accommodations that began to dominate the production market in later decades.
