The Neel 52 is a 52foot trimaran from Neel Trimarans, drawn by Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group and conceived inhouse by the builder. A Lombard design that replaces the JoubertNiveltdesigned Neel 51, it carries a racy, modern silhouette with sleek lines and an elaborately designed hull, and the builder describes it as exuding power, speed, and elegance. At 28 feet 10 inches of beam and just over 29,000 pounds displacement, she is over a ton lighter than her shorter predecessor yet uses the hull forms of a fast racing trimaran with narrow waterline beam as a platform for expansive four to sixcabin accommodation.

Neel 52 Buyer's Guide

Shopping the brokerage market for a Neel 52 means looking at a Marc Lombard trimaran built from 2023 onward as the successor to the Neel 51, offered in both private and former-charter layouts. Charter four-cabin layouts are the more common used examples, but both private and charter configurations are available and ex-charter examples are common. Knowing the layout families and the wear points separates a sound purchase from a tired former fleet boat.

Layouts on the Used Market

The 52 can be specced with three to six cabins, and ex-charter examples often show the six-cabin arrangement that gains extra saloon and dining space on the bridgedeck by omitting the owner's cabin there. Private boats more often keep the reconfigured owner's suite spanning the bridgedeck and the whole starboard ama, with a heads and shower mid-ama and a forward washer or work space. Four-cabin boats place a double in the port ama with a long hull window; the port ama can also split into two doubles sharing a head. A central main-hull double sits under the solid bridge deck with restricted light, and crew cabins can be added aft in each ama. The saloon adjoins the cockpit through the Cockloon opening, though one must stoop to see from the forward saloon windows.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

Commonly fitted systems on the used fleet include air conditioning, watermaker, solar, lithium batteries, bow thruster, electric winches, and washing machine, which together define a largely self-sufficient cruiser. Often-seen upgrades for passage work include a gennaker or asymmetric spinnaker, radar, autopilot, and Starlink. A frequent owner addition is an Integrel high-output alternator on the 110-hp Yanmar, feeding mixed 12/24/48-volt systems; test boats have shown large lithium banks and 2,600 watts of glued-on solar. The standard bow thruster aids the single-engine hull, and a stern thruster is a worthwhile option for tight Mediterranean berthing.

What to Inspect

Visibility from the raised starboard helm to the opposite bow can be tricky, and on starboard tack there is a large blind spot requiring descent of four steps to clear the jib. At the helm, testers found lots of rope and insufficient rope bins to manage it, a point to check for chafe and clutter. The nav station suffers a mullion interrupting sightlines and has no hatch above for mainsail view. Internally, some examples show hard interior edges that may not wear as well as rounded corners, and locker interiors with a mass-market home-furniture feel worth surveying for delamination or impact damage.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

Typical markets for the Neel 52 are France, Fiji, and the United States. For a used-boat survey, confirm helm sightlines and blind-spot mitigation, inspect rope-bin capacity and line wear at the helm, verify the nav-station lacks an overhead hatch, and assess interior edge and locker condition for charter wear.

  • Decide charter six-cabin vs private owner-suite layout for your use
  • Verify solar, lithium, watermaker, and bow thruster function
  • Inspect helm blind spots and starboard-tack visibility aids
  • Check ama crew-cabin and central-hull cabin ventilation
  • Confirm tender chocks and boom-end lift arrangement intact
