The Danboat 33 occupies a rare and historically significant niche in the evolution of fiberglass boatbuilding. Designed in the early 1960s by the legendary American naval architect Philip Rhodes and built by the Danish shipyard Sandersen Plastic Boats, it represents Denmark’s very first seriesproduced fiberglass sailboat. Of the ninetynine hulls constructed during its production run, ninetyseven were exported to the United States, leaving only two in Danish waters—a testament to its design being tailored specifically to compete in the burgeoning American offshore cruiser market. Characterized by graceful, traditional lines, a long overhang, a modest beam, and robust solidlaminate construction, the Danboat 33 was engineered to handle challenging openocean passages while offering the lower maintenance of early fiberglass hull construction.
