The Concordia 47 arrived as Carroll Marine's first step into the performance cruiser world, and it does not disappoint those expecting a major breakthrough. Built from a modified Corel 45 hull and shaped by Farr Yacht Design, the boat carries a lightcomposite construction premise into a 46foot9inch hull with a 40foot8inch waterline, 13foot7inch beam, and a 9foot6inch draft. It is a development of the Corel 45 hull, modified as Bob Perry noted in his SAILING review to make it more cruiser friendly.

Concordia 47 Buyer's Guide

Shopping the brokerage market for a Concordia 47 means looking at a Farr-designed, Carroll Marine–built performance cruiser that began production in 1996. These are composite boats with a carbon rig and a cruiser-friendly evolution of the Corel 45 hull, offered mainly in the United States. A used example rewards a buyer who values light construction and manageable sail handling over barebones simplicity.

Layouts on the Used Market

Every Concordia 47 shares the same core arrangement: a U-shaped galley to port just inside the companionway with a three-burner propane stove and double sinks, an aft cabin with a real double berth behind it, and a starboard head and shower with the nav station forward. The saloon carries a U-settee to port and a starboard settee with bookshelf, while the bow V-berth cabin adds a second head. Two integral water tanks give 100 gallons, and an aluminum fuel tank holds 60. The open cockpit has twin wheels and a wide transom step with shower.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

Most boats on the market carry a short-handed setup as standard intent, commonly fitted with an inverter, autopilot, chartplotter, radar, and liferaft. Spinnakers—both symmetric and asymmetric—are commonly fitted, as are freezers. For buyer consequence, the power and energy cluster (inverter, sometimes generator-class draws through the standard Yanmar 47-horsepower saildrive) matters most; navigation (chartplotter, radar, autopilot) and sail-handling canvas (asymmetric spinnaker for downwind) define how easily a couple can cruise. A Hall Quick Vang and carbon spinnaker pole were standard, with all Harken deck blocks.

What to Inspect

The stanchion support leg extends well inboard and can catch a foot until learned. Check the carbon rudder, stock, and quadrant for impact or delamination, and confirm the aluminum grid's keel-bolt integrity. The hull is vacuum-bagged E-glass and Kevlar with Superlite coring post-cured in an oven; inspect for repairs to that composite. Verify the Yanmar saildrive seal and the well-insulated engine box, and confirm the 60-gallon aluminum tank and 100-gallon integral water tanks are sound.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

Concordia 47s are typically found in the United States. For a buyer, the checklist is short: confirm the stanchion legs are intact and uncracked, test the carbon rudder gear, verify composite hull repairs, and validate the saildrive and tankage. A clean example offers a light, responsive cruiser with a genuine two-head layout.
