Comar Comet 850 Sailboats for Sale

In the late 1970s, the European yachting landscape underwent a dramatic shift as family cruising began to democratize across the Mediterranean. At the forefront of this movement was the Forlìbased shipyard Sipla—later renamed Comar Yachts—which capitalized on the massive success of its JeanMarie Finotdesigned Comet 910. Seeking to capture a broader market segment with a more compact, accessible, yet highly seaworthy platform, Comar commissioned Finot's design group once again to create the Comet 850 in 1977. Produced until 1985 with over 400 hulls completed, this masthead sloop quickly earned its place as a cornerstone of popular Italian sailing. It was famously dubbed the "Fiat Uno of the sea" by the marine publication Bolina—a testament to its utilitarian charm, robust construction, and ability to handle extended coastal journeys without requiring a highly experienced crew.
