The Bavaria 37 Cruiser built from June 2005 to November 2007 is a J&J-designed cruiser with over 800 units sold, replaced by the 38 Cruiser in 2007; on the used market it shows as a heavy, round-bodied displacement boat with a category A CE rating and a foam-cored topsides laminate. Shopping one means weighing a dated but solid interior against a tight cockpit and a few known weak points the surveys captured.

The boat was offered in two- or three-cabin arrangements. The three-cabin version places the head in the forepeak; the two-cabin version moves the head aft and gains a huge locker. The bow berth is a full 2.00 metres wide while the stern berth is just under 1.50 metres, and if two stern cabins are fitted the forward compartments turn shallow and small. Saloon height runs 1.90 to 2.04 metres and the aft head 1.86, with large windows, hull windows, two panoramic panes, and an opening centre hatch giving good light. A steep entry ladder and a simple hook-held door are typical; the drop-board rack mounts behind a cabin door.
Equipment and Common Upgrades

Many boats carry an in-mast furling mainsail and a first-generation Furlex genoa furler on Seldén rigging; the genoa sheets run on primary winches that were undersized 40s as standard, so larger primaries are a worthwhile upgrade. The test boat's more powerful 40 hp Volvo with a three-bladed folding prop is a useful benchmark for repower candidates, since the standard 27 hp unit is modest. A 1.60 metre keel was offered against the 1.95, and the original tight-fitting robust sprayhood bars outclass later replacements. The cabinet hinges are not corrosion-resistant, so check locker and door hardware for rust and plan replacements. Once the tanks are filled, the forepeak boxes are in use, and the cockpit is manned, the boat settles noticeably by the stern, so assess trim and tank mounting. The cockpit bench ends are rounded so they cannot be leaned against fore or aft, a fixed ergonomic limitation rather than a fault. The steering is somewhat sluggish and the coaming too narrow to sit on; exercise the wheel and verify the 100-centimetre wheel and its pillar for free movement.
