The Bavaria 32 Cruiser arrived in 2011 as the smallest yacht in Bavaria's Cruiser range, a line that ran up to 55 feet and was the product of Bruce Farr's naval architecture for the marque. Within the same model year the design was also known as the Bavaria 33 after a renaming, but the 32 Cruiser name marks the entry point of a Farrdesigned generation built for accessible family cruising. At just 10 metres overall, she is a notably voluminous small boat, and Yachting Monthly found her 10 percent heavier than some rival 32footers, a heft the reviewer called reassuring rather than ponderous.

Bavaria 32 Cruiser (2011) Buyer's Guide

Shopping the brokerage market for a Bavaria 32 Cruiser means looking at a 2011 Farr-designed small cruiser that was later badged the Bavaria 33, offered in two- or three-cabin layouts with ex-charter examples a common sight. The smallest of Bavaria's Cruiser range, she packs a surprising amount of volume into 10 metres, and the used fleet spans pale-grey or white hulls with deep or shoal keels. Knowing which layouts and upgrades actually matter, and where the production details need a careful eye, is the difference between a happy purchase and a damp disappointment.

Layouts on the Used Market

Owner three-cabin versions are the more common on the used market, but both two- and three-cabin boats are available. The original two-cabin plan gives a v-berth forward and a large aft double reaching under the cockpit, while the saloon seats six with almost six feet of headroom and an enormous table. A heads compartment built as a proper wet room with independent shower is a standout for the size, and a waist-height holding-tank locker with an easily reached outlet seacock under the sink keeps things civilised. Ex-charter history is common, so wear in these high-traffic areas — saloon cushion edges, wet locker, and heads — deserves a closer look than on a private boat.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

Most boats on the market carry a chartplotter, autopilot, teak decks, heating, hot water, and in-mast furling as standard-fitted equipment, with a swim platform, bimini, and cockpit shower often seen. A frequent owner-upgrade cluster centres on energy and safety: an inverter and AIS show up less commonly but matter for extended cruising, while a life raft and electric winches are occasional additions rather than the norm. The Avantgarde specification is worth spotting — it brought a Webasto heating system, a 30hp engine in place of the standard 18hp, and an electric windlass, a meaningful step up for heavier-weather motoring and ground-tackle handling.

What to Inspect

The rigging carries a few documented niggles worth checking before you commit. Period testers noted the jackstays did not reach all the way to the bow, leaving a forward furler issue exposed, and the lower shrouds cut across the sidedeck awkwardly. Engine access is generally good, but testers found the through-hull valve awkward to reach if hot because it sits aft of the motor, so test its operation cold. Below, lift the saloon cushions: the plywood joinery edges were left unsealed with sealant in places, and the hull-side panelling is a thin plastic rather than wood — damp or peeling here signals neglected storage. The cockpit locker is deep and wide but its access hatch is small for the space, so confirm you can actually retrieve a dinghy or gear through it.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

These yachts turn up across Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, and Croatia. For a buyer, the short list is: confirm the layout matches your plans (three-cabin owner boats lead the market, ex-charter abounds); verify the Avantgarde extras if more power matters; check jackstays, engine seacock reach, and interior edge sealing; and inspect the cockpit locker access in person. A careful survey of those points will flag most of what separates a sound example from a tired one.
