Bavaria 32 Cruiser (2011) Buyer's Guide
The Bavaria 32 Cruiser (2011) is a ten-metre family cruiser designed by Bruce Farr and later renamed the 33, the smallest of Bavaria's Cruiser range. On the used market it presents as a volume-packed two-cabin boat with an easy furling rig, and a typical example will have been spec'd for European coastal cruising. Knowing what was standard, what was commonly added, and where the design has documented weak spots will sharpen any survey and offer.
Layouts on the Used Market
Every example follows the same two-cabin footprint: a v-berth forward and an enormous double aft cabin running under the cockpit sole, lit by hull and cockpit portlights. The saloon seats six with nearly 6ft headroom around an enormous table with cutlery and glasses storage, and a small chart table works from the port side. The galley is small but functional with sink and hob covers; the heads is a surprisingly large wet room with independent shower, backed by a generous wet locker and a waist-height holding tank locker. Cockpit layout is consistent too — high forward coaming, decent table with integral locker, deep wide locker, and a helm seat that drops to a swim platform. The Avantgarde spec brought a 30hp engine, Webasto heating, and electric windlass over the standard 18hp boat.
Equipment and Common Upgrades
Brokers' listings commonly show chartplotter, autopilot, teak decks, heating, hot water, swim platform, and furling main as fitted. Bimini and cockpit shower are often seen. Inverter, AIS, life raft, and electric winches appear less frequently, usually as owner upgrades rather than factory standard. The standard in-mast furling and traveller-less main are universal; a shoal draft 1.5m keel version exists alongside the 1.95m deep-fin, worth confirming if Mediterranean or shallow harbours are in play.
What to Inspect
The cockpit locker access hatch is quite small compared to the locker volume, so check whether owners have modified or struggle with loading access hatch is quite small. The lower shrouds cut across the sidedeck and are awkward to navigate forward, and testers found the jackstays did not reach all the way to the bow, a real safety gap if furler work is needed at sea jackstays didn't reach all the way to the bow. The engine seacock sits behind the engine and is awkward to reach when hot, so verify its service history and operator access seacock was behind the engine and awkward to reach. Also lift saloon cushions: plywood joinery edges may be sanded but left unsealed, with sealant-finished edges rather than capped.
Availability and Buyer's Takeaway
These boats are typically found in Germany, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, and Croatia. For a shopper, the checklist is short and fact-backed: confirm keel draft version; verify jackstay length to bow and consider extending; inspect engine seacock reach; check cockpit locker access; lift cushions for unsealed ply edges. A well-kept example rewards with near-40-footer accommodation in a ten-metre, easy-to-sail package.
