The Herreshoff Alerion 26 represents a modern, fiberglass realization of one of yachting’s most sacred lineages. The model traces its genetic material directly to Alerion III, the personal 26foot gaffrigged daysailer designed and built in 1912 by Nathanael G. Herreshoff. Finding the original design slightly tender, "Captain Nat" refined the hull lines in 1914 to increase beam and forward buoyancy, producing the legendary centerboard sloop Sadie. Decades later, Captain Nat’s grandson, Halsey Herreshoff, alongside his father, A. Sidney DeWolfe Herreshoff, adapted those exact lines into a highly refined fiberglass daysailer. Starting production in 2002, the Herreshoff Alerion 26 was built to satisfy traditionalists who demanded the breathtaking proportions of the golden age of sail, but with the structural durability and low maintenance of modern composites.
