The Tartan 3100, introduced in the late 1980s as an evolution of the earlier Tartan 31, represents a pivotal era for the Ohiobased builder. Designed by Tim Jackett, who would go on to define the modern Tartan aesthetic, the 3100 was engineered to balance the requirements of a competitive PHRF racer with the amenities of a legitimate coastal cruiser. While it shares a hull form with the Tartan 31, the 3100 variant often featured updated interior arrangements and refined deck hardware aimed at the shorthanded sailor.
