The Seaward 46 RK represents a fascinating compromisefree dream made reality. Conceived by Nick Hake, founder and president of Floridabased Hake Yachts, this variabledraft flagship was born out of a desire to scale up the extreme shallowwater capabilities of his smaller, trailerable pocket cruisers into a proper, oceangoing luxury passagemaker 2. Rather than settling for the compromised windward performance of shoaldraft keel configurations or the restrictive draft of deep fixed keels, Hake envisioned a yacht that could cross oceans safely and then glide right up to a remote Bahamian beach. To realize the complex naval architecture of the hull, Hake collaborated with naval architect Eric Sponberg of Sponberg Yacht Design, who sculpted a lighttomedium displacement, easily driven hull form to perfectly match Hake's innovative retractable keel and rudder designs 4. Built initially in Stuart, Florida, and later transitioned to the Largo facility of Traditional Watercraft Inc.—renowned for constructing Island Packet and Blue Jacket Yachts—the Seaward 46 RK serves as a masterclass in specialized, highgrade American boatbuilding.
