The Mamba 29 emerged from the BK Marin yard in Forshaga, Sweden, at a time when Scandinavian yacht design was transitioning away from the pinchedstern, highdisplacement templates of the 1970s International Offshore Rule. Designed by Jan Becker—collaborating with his father, the esteemed naval architect Harry Becker—the Mamba 29 was envisioned as a modern, highvolume cruiser that could maximize interior comfort without abandoning the lively sailing performance characteristic of Balticbred boats. Over its production run from 1980 to 1989, which yielded approximately 200 to 250 hulls, the Mamba 29 carved out a dedicated niche as a comfortable family cruiser. It defied its modest waterline length by presenting a spacious, beamier alternative to traditional 29footers of the era, such as the Albin Cumulus and the HallbergRassy 29.
