The Lagoon 43 arrived for the 2025 season as the successor to the longrunning Lagoon 42, a catamaran with more than 1,100 hulls launched that the builder knew would be a tough act to follow anchor. Designed by VPLP with exterior styling by Patrick le Quément and interiors by Nauta Design, the 43 measures 45 feet 5 inches overall on a 25foot3inch beam, drawing just 4 feet 5 inches and listing a light displacement of roughly 29,400 pounds. It is a thoroughly modern cruising cat, nominated for both European Yacht of the Year 2025 and Cruising World Boat of the Year, and about half of the units built are expected to go into charter service.

Lagoon 43 Buyer's Guide

Shopping the used Lagoon 43 means weighing a very new design against the realities of a model that only entered production in 2025. The 43 replaced the popular Lagoon 42 in the current lineup, and while early units are reaching the brokerage and charter markets, the boat is best understood as a new design with owner and ex-charter examples both in circulation. Knowing the layout variants and the standard equipment clusters helps a buyer separate a well-spec'd private boat from a bare-bones former fleet unit.

Layouts on the Used Market

Owner three-cabin layouts are the more common on the used market, but both owner and charter configurations are available, and ex-charter examples are common. The owner's version gives a dedicated starboard suite with a forward bed, a large head with separate enclosed toilet, and a central desk, while a port hull carries matching fore and aft cabins. Charter versions instead spread four double-berth staterooms across the hulls, often with a high-rise single berth folded over a double aft for extra capacity. In the saloon, adjacent dining tables in the main cabin and cockpit can be arranged a dozen ways and paired to seat a dinner party when the glass door is open; once the doors are closed, the saloon table drops with cushions inserted to create a roomy berth. Aft staterooms and the owner's space can each be reached from separate cockpit entrances or down a few steps from the saloon.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

For a buyer, the meaningful equipment falls into a few clusters. On power and energy, most boats carry a generator and a solar array topside, with commonly fitted electric winches and often-seen inverter and lithium batteries appearing as upgrades; the "Silent Package" with lithium, upsized alternators, and a large inverter is the factory route to off-grid reliability. For canvas and sail handling, a bimini and cockpit shower are standard fare, with dinghy davits often seen and the integrated davit netting forming an aft trampoline when the dinghy is launched. Navigation is centered on a chartplotter and autopilot, both commonly fitted, with radar and AIS often seen; Raymarine instrumentation and a Quick windlass are typical. Comfort items lean on hot water as standard, with air conditioning and a watermaker less commonly seen as owner additions. A swim platform and the side boarding doors make water access easy regardless of tier.

What to Inspect

The construction is an infused E-glass and polyester laminate with a balsa core through hull, deck, and coachroof anchor. Because the core runs continuously, any documented hull puncture, deck strike, or moisture intrusion around the side boarding doors and aft entryways deserves close survey attention, as do the transom step areas and the molded bulwark junctions. The twin 57-hp Yanmar saildrives are the only propulsion offered, so check the saildrive seals and the 5-year Yanmar-only warranty status; the 7-year structural and 3-year general warranties likewise carry exclusions a survey should clarify. With the rig moved forward and a longer boom on a shorter mast, inspect the compression post area near the forward windows and the traditional headsail sheeting tracks for wear.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

Typical markets for the Lagoon 43 include the United States, Croatia, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Gibraltar. For a buyer, the short checklist is: confirm owner versus charter layout and berth count; verify the generator, solar, and any lithium upgrade for energy independence; check saildrive and core integrity around the added aft entries and side doors; and confirm which warranties remain transferable. The 43 is a new enough design that a careful survey and layout match to your plans will matter more than chasing options on a boat that is fundamentally a clean-sheet Lagoon.
