The Farr 280 represents a sophisticated pivot in the evolution of the Grand Prix sportsboat, designed by Farr Yacht Design to bridge the gap between highperformance dinghies and larger offshore racing yachts. Launched in 2014 and constructed by Premier Composite Technologies (PCT), the vessel was engineered as a hightech, One Design platform that prioritizes speed, simplicity, and modern aesthetics. Built entirely from Eglass and carbon fiber with a foam core, the hull utilizes vacuuminfusion techniques to achieve a displacement of approximately 3,600 lbs—of which nearly 40% is dedicated to the Tbulb keel. This aggressive weight distribution, paired with a reversesheer bow and a hardchined hull, results in a boat that is visually striking and exceptionally stiff. Unlike its predecessor, the Farr 30 (formerly the Mumm 30), the 280 was designed specifically for an asymmetric sail plan, eliminating the need for a traditional spinnaker pole and simplifying crew maneuvers during highspeed gybes.
