The Dufour Atoll 43 represents one of the most radical departures from traditional yacht design in the history of the La Rochelle-based builder. Launched in 1998 and designed by the renowned naval architect Philippe Briand, the Atoll 43 was the centerpiece of a short-lived but influential "Atoll" range. The design philosophy, often referred to as the "Monocat" concept, sought to replicate the single-level living space of a cruising catamaran within the structural and docking footprint of a monohull. By eliminating the traditional bridge deck and raising the saloon floor to the level of the cockpit, Briand created a seamless indoor-outdoor living area covered by a distinctive rigid bimini with a sliding sunroof. While it was primarily targeted at the Mediterranean and Caribbean charter markets, specifically through partnerships with companies like Sunsail, the Atoll 43 has since found a niche among private owners who prioritize social space and ventilation over traditional aesthetic lines.
