The Dufour Atoll 43 represents one of the most radical departures from traditional yacht design in the history of the La Rochellebased builder. Launched in 1998 and designed by the renowned naval architect Philippe Briand, the Atoll 43 was the centerpiece of a shortlived but influential "Atoll" range. The design philosophy, often referred to as the "Monocat" concept, sought to replicate the singlelevel living space of a cruising catamaran within the structural and docking footprint of a monohull. By eliminating the traditional bridge deck and raising the saloon floor to the level of the cockpit, Briand created a seamless indooroutdoor living area covered by a distinctive rigid bimini with a sliding sunroof. While it was primarily targeted at the Mediterranean and Caribbean charter markets, specifically through partnerships with companies like Sunsail, the Atoll 43 has since found a niche among private owners who prioritize social space and ventilation over traditional aesthetic lines.
