The Dufour 365 Grand Large entered production in 2005 as part of the shipyard’s Grand Large cruising line, a family of yachts conceived under Umberto Felci’s longterm design partnership with Dufour that began in 2002. More than 400 were built through 2012. Felci’s lines were drawn to be typically Italian and elegant, and the 365 carries a beam of 3.65 metres on a 10.53metre hull with a 1.70metre draft and a displacement of 5.7 tonnes, a quarter of which is iron ballast at 1.5 tonnes. The yacht holds a CE design category A and YACHT noted a sailcarrying capacity of 4.4 as at least respectable anchor, with a 29.5squaremetre mainsail and a 33squaremetre 135% furling genoa.

Dufour 365 Grand Large Buyer's Guide

Shopping the used market for a Dufour 365 Grand Large means looking at a Felci-designed cruiser built from 2005 to 2012, with over 400 produced. The Grand Large name places it in Dufour’s family-cruising line rather than the Performance range, and the boat’s 3.65-metre beam and 1.70-metre draft suit Mediterranean and Atlantic coastal cruising. Ex-charter examples are common, and both two- and three-cabin layouts appear, with the owner three-cabin version more frequently seen.

Layouts on the Used Market

The 365’s interior centers on a longitudinal pantry to port and a forward berth offset to starboard that measures only 1.35 metres wide. The aft end is the main variable: a single aft cabin gives a 1.95-by-1.60-metre berth, while two aft cabins cut that width to 1.40 metres. The offset forward berth and linear galley are consistent across versions; the choice is really about a large owner’s aft double versus two smaller guest berths. Ex-charter boats tend to be the two-aft-cabin configuration.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

On the used market, a Dufour 365 Grand Large will commonly carry a chartplotter, autopilot, AIS, radar, and a life raft as navigational and safety baseline. Common comfort and sail-handling gear includes a bimini, cockpit shower, hot water, heating, and solar; teak decks and an asymmetric spinnaker or conventional spinnaker are also frequently found. Less common owner additions include a Code Zero for offwind speed, electric winches to ease shorthanded trimming, and an EPIRB. A swim platform appears on some boats as a later upgrade. The 29-horsepower Volvo Penta diesel and the injection-molded deck are standard; the equipment clusters a buyer should weigh are power and energy (solar, heating, hot water), canvas and sail handling (bimini, spinnaker, Code Zero), and navigation (chartplotter, AIS, radar).

What to Inspect

The one documented factory limitation is that the 365 could not be ordered with a rubbing strake, not even as extra equipment anchor. Inspect the topsides for gelcoat scuffs or owner-fitted guard rails. The hull and deck are glued and screwed with laminated bulkheads anchor, so check bulkhead bonds for any separation. The infusion-process hull using iso-resins and foam sandwich anchor should be surveyed for moisture consistent with any foam-cored fiberglass, but the construction method itself is a point in the boat’s favor.

Availability and Buyer's Takeaway

These yachts typically appear in the United Kingdom, France, Greece, Portugal, Spain, and Italy. For a buyer, the checklist is short: confirm the layout matches your berth-width needs (forward is 1.35 metres; aft is 1.60 single or 1.40 twin), verify any rubbing-strake retrofit, and review the bulkhead lamination during survey. A commonly equipped example with solar, autopilot, and a spinnaker represents the model’s intended cruising character well.
