The Bavaria Cruiser 56 stands as the largest and most recent vessel in Bavaria Yachts’ Farrdesigned Cruiser series, a 54foot flagship that replaced the earlier 55 as the top of a sevenmodel range. Drawn by Farr Yacht Design and molded by Bavaria Yachts in Germany, she carries the lineage of a builder whose sailing line had been steered toward Farr hulls and structural engineering since 2009. As the new flagship of the German builder’s portfolio, she represents the pinnacle of that collaboration in the Cruiser naming before the later CLine transition.

Bavaria Cruiser 56 Buyer's Guide

Shopping the brokerage market for a Bavaria Cruiser 56 means looking at the largest of Bavaria’s Farr-designed Cruiser yachts, built from 2013 as the flagship that replaced the 55. She is a 54-foot performance cruiser with a fold-down transom tender garage and a configurable four-cabin interior, and the used fleet reflects both her charter history and private ownership.

Layouts on the Used Market

Charter four-cabin arrangements are the more common version afloat, though both private and ex-charter layouts are available and ex-charter examples are common. The standard tested layout places two aft queen cabins, a third double-bunk cabin at the companionway, and a large forward owner’s suite with private head and shower. Buyers should expect the saloon nav station and U-shaped galley amidships, with the flexible interior systems allowing numerous configurations to suit individual tastes.

Equipment and Common Upgrades

Most boats on the market carry a strong baseline: biminis, teak decks, chartplotter, swim platform, furling main, bow thruster, cockpit shower, air conditioning, heating, autopilot, inverter, and electric winches are commonly fitted. For buyer consequence, the electric winches and bow thruster matter most for short-handed handling around docks, while air conditioning and heating define liveaboard comfort. Often-seen additions include watermaker, solar, life raft, and hot water — a watermaker and solar pairing extends autonomous cruising range, and a life raft is a safety baseline on a boat of this size. Less common owner upgrades such as AIS, radar, dodger, and freezer appear on some boats and are worth noting but not expected.

What to Inspect

The fold-down transom with an internal tender garage and a stern-mounted compressor for inflating the dinghy fold-down transom garage should be checked carefully. Inspect the transom hinge seals and the garage bilge for water ingress, since the compartment houses the inflator and a stowed motor. The in-mast furling main and double-ended mainsheet, plus the electric Lewmar genoa winches, should be cycled to confirm smooth operation, and the twin helms’ push-button tacking system verified at both wheels.

Availability and Buyer’s Takeaway

These yachts typically appear in Croatia, Greece, Spain, Germany, Turkey, and Montenegro. For a buyer, the checklist is straightforward: confirm layout (ex-charter four-cabin common), verify the transom garage and tender systems, check the furling rig and electric winches, and assess whether often-seen cruising gear (watermaker, solar, life raft) is present for your plans.

  • Prefer a surveyed transom garage and tender compressor over a boat with unknown seal history
  • Expect ex-charter examples; verify hours and interior wear accordingly
  • Confirm electric winches, bow thruster, and autopilot for manageable handling
  • Note solar and watermaker as strong indicators of bluewater readiness
