Bavaria C50 Buyer's Guide
The Bavaria C50 entered production in 2018 as part of Bavaria Yachts' Cossutti-designed C-Line and has become a familiar name among used Bavaria C50s in the brokerage market. Ex-charter examples are common, and the boat's Mediterranean orientation makes it a frequent candidate for subsequent private ownership. Knowing the documented layouts, equipment tiers, and inspection points helps a shopper focus a survey rather than chase generic condition worries.
Layouts on the Used Market
Owner three-cabin layouts are the more common on the used market, but both three- and five-cabin versions are available, with three or four heads depending on configuration. The C50's galley is moved aft and is no longer linear, and the new models have a dinghy garage in the stern. High topsides ease boarding but reflect the raised hull form, and the coachroof carries smooth areas rather than full nonskid panels.
Equipment and Common Upgrades
On the used market the C50 is commonly fitted with electric winches, a furling main, chartplotter, swim platform, bimini, air conditioning, bow thruster, autopilot, self-tacking jib, cockpit shower, AIS, inverter, and teak decks. Solar and lithium batteries are often seen, as are hot water and a dodger. Less commonly, buyers will find dinghy davits, life raft, heating, radar, watermaker, code zero, or a freezer as owner upgrades. The B&G Naviop system lets any screen call up navigation data and act as a switch panel for tank levels and lights from the helm, with phone monitoring already possible.
What to Inspect
Documented review commentary notes no small stowage in the cockpit, a minor omission worth verifying on any candidate. The single rudder blade replaced twin rudders on this model, so rudder stock and bearing condition deserve close attention during survey. The Saildrive transmission on the 80 hp engine should be checked for diaphragm and seal service history, and the vacuum-infused laminates among other features should be surveyed for bonding and osmotic issues like any modern composite hull.
Availability and Buyer's Takeaway
Typical markets for the C50 include the United States, Türkiye, Greece, Croatia, Italy, and Spain. For a shopper, the short checklist is: confirm cabin count and heads against intended use, verify the self-tacking jib and furling main operation, inspect the single rudder and Saildrive, and confirm the B&G Naviop network responds from all screens.
