Bavaria C50 Buyer's Guide
The Bavaria C50 is a 50-foot Cossutti-designed monohull from Bavaria Yachts' C-Line, introduced alongside the C45 and after the C57. On the brokerage market she appears both as ex-charter and private examples, with owner three-cabin layouts more common but five-cabin versions also available. Built from 2018 onward, she is a modern volume cruiser aimed at coastal and island sailing rather than offshore work, and that purpose shapes what a buyer should look for and expect.

The C50 was sold with a choice of interior plans documented as three or five cabins and three or four heads. Owner-oriented three-cabin boats are the more frequent find secondhand, though the higher-capacity five-cabin layout exists, often from charter service. The aft galley is non-linear and the stern carries a dinghy garage, so a buyer comparing ex-charter units should check how the garage mechanisms and aft joinery have worn. Ex-charter examples are common, and their higher head counts reflect that history.
Equipment and Common Upgrades
Most used C50s carry a strong factory-equipped baseline: furling main, chartplotter, electric winches, autopilot, air conditioning, bow thruster, self-tacking jib, inverter, and AIS are commonly fitted, with bimini, swim platform, and teak decks also usual. For buyer consequence, the meaningful clusters are power and energy — commonly fitted air conditioning and inverter, with solar, lithium batteries, and hot water often seen — and sail handling and comfort, where electric winches, furling main, and self-tacking jib dominate. Less common but seen as owner upgrades are code zero and watermaker. A digital switching system lets any screen show navigation data and act as a switch panel, with phone monitoring already possible.
What to Inspect
The C50's coachroof has smooth areas in its styling, and the topsides are high, which a review noted makes boarding from low docks harder — worth confirming a safe step arrangement exists. The same review recorded no small stowage in the cockpit, so check whether owners added practical solutions. Because the hull uses vacuum-infused laminates and is described by the builder as more stable but lighter, inspect for any osmotic or impact issues as with any solid-laminate yacht, and verify the single spade rudder and Saildrive seal condition given the 80 hp Yanmar and Saildrive transmission.
