Introduced in 1970, the Witus 27 is a classic Swedish pocket cruiser that represents a fascinating transitional era in European boatbuilding. Designed by the legendary naval architect Arvid Laurin—renowned for his seaworthy "Koster" doubleenders—the Witus 27 was built by Motala Båtvarv (Motala Boatyard). Motala Båtvarv, a yard famed for its highly crafted wooden Nordic Folkboats, sought to adapt to the rise of fiberglass by marrying modern, lowmaintenance materials with traditional Scandinavian seakindliness. The result was the Witus 27: a highly durable, longkeeled, fractional sloop that prioritizes structural safety and comfort in demanding coastal waters. With approximately 46 hulls built during its production run, it remains a rare and respected design among classic pocketcruising purists.
