The Sirius 28, a product of the Owen Soundbased Vandestadt and McGruer Ltd., represents the evolutionary peak of Hubert Vandestadt’s design philosophy: the marriage of robust Canadian construction with an emphasis on internal volume. Produced between 1976 and the late 1980s, the Sirius 28 was the larger, more sophisticated sibling to the immensely successful Sirius 21. While the 21foot version secured the firm's reputation in the trailersailer market, the 28 was designed as a legitimate coastal cruiser and club racer, intended to compete with established contemporaries such as the C&C 27 and the Tanzer 28. Built with a heavy hand in the fiberglass shop, these vessels were engineered to handle the steep chop of the Great Lakes, a requirement that translated well to coastal environments across North America.
