The HH44 is a 2021-onwards performance cruising catamaran from HH Catamarans, designed in-house by James Hakes and offered in Sports Cruising (SC) and Ocean Cruising (OC) guises. Owner three-cabin layouts are the more common on the used market, but both are available; ex-charter examples are common. The three-cabin hull arrangement places a configurable forward starboard cabin — compact double, Pullman, or utility — alongside the standard cabins, with aft berths that lift on struts to expose the engine bays below. The saloon carries over 2m headroom and opens via large forward glass windows, linking to a cockpit galley.
Equipment and Common Upgrades
Power and energy define the HH44. Electric winches, solar, air conditioning, a gennaker, and autopilot are commonly fitted, while a watermaker, inverter, code zero, spinnaker, bow thruster, radar, AIS, chartplotter, and life raft are often seen. The SC standard of 4.2kW solar and 48V battery bank supports large electrical loads without a generator, and the EcoDrive hybrids act as dual 5kW generators under power. For comfort, heating and hot water are often carried, with a washing machine sometimes present. Navigation and safety clusters lean on the chartplotter, AIS, radar, and life raft frequently found aboard.
What to Inspect
The fold-down helm seats sit low enough that sightlines suffer, and the canted swing pedestals leave blind spots in the quarters — sit at each helm and confirm you can see the rig and bow with the seat deployed anchor. The ultra-fine bows and bulky daggerboard casings compress hull cabin volume, so check the forward starboard cabin's usable space against your needs and look for casing intrusion into lockers. The EVA foam decking across the deck is comfortable but its long-term wear is unproven; walk it and look for compression, peeling edges, or discolouration that signals early failure anchor.
