The Ericson 28+ represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of the Southern California boatbuilder. Introduced in 1980 and produced through 1984, the model marked a decisive shift away from the narrower, pinchedstern designs of the 1970s toward the beamier, performanceoriented cruiserracers that would define the 1980s. Designed by the legendary Bruce King, the 28+ was not merely an updated version of the classic Ericson 28. Instead, it was an ingenious development of the larger Ericson 30+. The factory took the hull mold of the 30+, shortened the transom by two feet, modified the cabin trunk and interior layout, and delivered a vessel that offered the expansive interior volume of a 30foot boat within a more agile, costeffective, and highly competitive 28.5foot platform.
