The ComPac 19 Mk II is a prominent example of the traditional "pocket cruiser" class, designed to offer trailerable convenience without sacrificing the seakindly characteristics of a heavier keelboat. Introduced in 1979 by the Hutchins Company (builder of ComPac Yachts), the vessel was penned by Robert K. Johnson, who later went on to design the legendary Island Packet line. Johnson's design philosophy for the ComPac 19 was intended to bridge the significant gap between the tiny, daysailing ComPac 16 and the larger, more complex ComPac 23. It was built to feel like a "little ship" rather than a dinghy, appealing to sailors who wanted to venture onto open bays, large lakes, and coastal sounds with the security of a ballasted, fixedkeel hull. To achieve this, the builder fitted out the boat with highquality bronze portlights, extensive teak trim, and robust fiberglass layup schedules that set it apart from contemporary massproduction trailersailers of the era.
