The Chrysler 22 represents a significant milestone in the 1970s "trailersailer" boom, designed by the legendary naval architect Halsey Herreshoff to provide a bridge between small daysailers and larger coastal cruisers. Produced by Chrysler Marine between 1975 and 1979, the boat was engineered to maximize the legal towing limit of the era, featuring a 7foot, 11inch beam that pushed the boundaries of what a family vehicle could reasonably transport to the water. Unlike many of its lightweight contemporaries, the Chrysler 22 was built with a surprising degree of heft and structural integrity, intended to offer a "big boat" feel in a compact, manageable package. Following Chrysler's exit from the marine industry in 1980, the tooling was acquired by Texas Marine International (TMI), which continued production of the design as the TMI 22, cementing the hull's reputation for longevity and adaptability.
