The Aloa 23 R, built between 1978 and 1980, is a highly tuned, racercruiser variant of the popular Aloa 23, a foundational model that helped secure the reputation of the French builder SEB Marine, later rebranded as Aloa Marine. Nestled on the French Riviera in Mandelieu, the boatyard established itself during the early days of recreational fiberglass construction by collaborating with legendary naval architects. While the standard Aloa 23—conceived by JeanMichel L'Hermenier in the late 1960s—was a gentle, familyoriented coastal pocket cruiser, the 23 R (where the R stands for Régate or Racer) was a product of the late 1970s performance revolution. Designed by the celebrated Jacques Fauroux, the 23 R was optimized specifically for competitive club racing under the international rating systems of the era, offering a lighter, faster, and more responsive platform that became a favorite across European waters.
