The Windelo 54 is a highperformance cruising catamaran that represents a paradigm shift in sustainable yacht construction. Launched by the French shipyard Windelo and designed by the acclaimed naval architects Christophe Barreau and Frédéric Neuman, this vessel is built primarily using an innovative ecocomposite of volcanic basalt fiber and PET foam made from recycled plastic bottles. This construction method, developed in collaboration with researchers at the École des Mines d’Alès, reportedly reduces the hull's carbon footprint by nearly 50% compared to traditional fiberglass. Measuring 16.24 meters in length with a beam of 7.98 meters, the 54 is the larger sibling to the original Windelo 50, offering increased waterline length for better longitudinal stability and significantly expanded interior volume.
