The Sparkman & Stephens 30 is a "modern classic" daysailer that represents the final design project Olin Stephens personally influenced before his passing in 2008. Introduced in 2012 and built by C&C Fiberglass Components for Bluenose Yacht Sales, the vessel is a contemporary reimagining of S&S Design No. 97, a 1935 wooden ocean racer named Babe. While the original Babe was a heavy, 11,000-pound wooden boat, the modern S&S 30 utilizes a foam-cored E-glass and vinylester hull, shedding nearly half the weight of its predecessor. It captures the "Spirit of Tradition" aesthetic with a plumb bow, elegant sheer line, and a square transom, but hides a high-performance underwater profile consisting of a deep fin keel with a lead bulb and a high-aspect spade rudder.
