The San Juan 21 stands as the definitive vessel that transitioned the Clark Boat Company from a builder of onedesign dinghies into a major player in the recreational cruiserracer market. Designed by Don Clark and introduced in 1969, the boat was a response to the growing demand for a "trailersailer" that could be easily towed by a standard family car while providing enough overnight accommodation for a weekend getaway. With approximately 2,600 hulls produced between its Washington and North Carolina plants, it remains one of the most successful 21foot production sailboats ever built. Its design philosophy emphasizes a high powertoweight ratio and a fully retractable swing keel, allowing it to be launched in shallow water and retrieved effortlessly on a ramp.
