The RM 970, a 32foot performance cruiser from the La Rochellebased shipyard RM Yachts, represents a bold departure from the fiberglassdominated landscape of modern yachting. Designed by the Marc Lombard Design Group, the vessel was launched in 2016 as a successor to the RM 960 and quickly solidified its reputation by winning the prestigious European Yacht of the Year 2017 in the Family Cruiser category. Built using a specialized epoxyplywood saturation technique—where marine plywood panels are joined over a mahogany frame and coated in fiberglass and epoxy resin—the RM 970 offers a hull that is significantly stiffer and lighter than traditional GRP (glassreinforced plastic) alternatives. This construction method, combined with Lombard’s racinginspired lines, creates a boat that is as much an offshore passagemaker as it is a coastal family cruiser.
