The Island Packet 26 Mk I represents the foundational DNA of what would become one of America’s most respected cruising brands. Developed by Bob Johnson in the early 1980s under his initial company name, Traditional Watercraft, the 26 Mk I took the concepts of the preceding Island Packet 25 and expanded upon them to create a "pocket cruiser" with the internal volume and stability of a much larger vessel. Produced between 1982 and 1984 before being succeeded by the Mk II, this model established the signature Island Packet aesthetic: a cream-colored hull, a heavy-duty cutter rig, and the proprietary Full Foil Keel. The boat’s defining characteristic is its extraordinary beam-to-length ratio; at 10 feet 6 inches wide on a 26-foot 2-inch hull, it offers a footprint and stability profile more common in 30-footers of the era.
