The Hunter 19-2, introduced in the early 1990s, represents a pivotal shift in Hunter Marine’s approach to the trailerable pocket-cruiser market. While the brand had previously found success with the Cherubini-designed Hunter 19 of the 1970s—a heavy, fixed-keel boat—the 19-2 was a completely different animal, engineered for the burgeoning "water-ballast" era. Designed to be towed by a standard family vehicle and launched in shallow water, the 19-2 utilized a hollow hull section that filled with roughly 600 pounds of lake or sea water once deployed. This design allowed the boat to maintain a remarkably low towing weight of approximately 2,000 pounds while providing the necessary righting moment once under sail. The model was so successful in its niche that it eventually dropped the "-2" suffix in later production years, becoming simply the Hunter 19, and paved the technical way for its larger siblings, the Hunter 23.5 and 26.
