The Edey & Duff Doughdish represents one of the most successful transitions of a wooden masterpiece into the fiberglass era. Conceived as a faithful replica of Nathanael Herreshoff’s 1914 "Buzzards Bay Boy’s Boat" (the Herreshoff 12 ½), the Doughdish was the first model produced by the Massachusetts yard in 1973. Unlike many fiberglass adaptations that modify hull lines for ease of molding, the Doughdish was created using a mold taken directly from a wooden hull, specifically hull number 729. This meticulous approach ensured that the boat retained the exact displacement, stability, and "feel" of the original Edwardianera trainer. It is an open daysailer designed for the choppy waters of Buzzards Bay, combining a heavy lead keel with a gaffrigged sail plan to offer a sailing experience that is both forgiving for novices and rewarding for traditionalists.
