The Bacchant IV, often designated simply as the Bacchant 35 or Bacchant 4, is a celebrated example of classic Scandinavian naval architecture, representing the postwar transition from wood to fiberglass construction. Designed in 1964 by the legendary Swedish naval architect Knud Hielmberg Reimers, the model holds a unique place in maritime history. Born out of a custom commission for a young engineer at the industrial firm ABB in Västerås, Sweden, the elegant, narrowbeamed cruiser immediately captivated onlookers. This surge of interest prompted the founding of the Västerås Fiberplast yard (later Västerås Hardplast) to begin serial production. Between 1964 and 1986, approximately 80 to 100 hulls were completed, establishing the Bacchant IV as a cult favorite among traditionalists who value grace, structural integrity, and seakindliness over raw cabin volume.
